Many real estates sites have noted that traditional colors, such as white, greys, blues, creamy beige, beige/browns, and greens sell the best...and increase the value!
Exterior
Aside from spending thousands on home renovations that can increase the home’s value, there are some less expensive changes available that can affect your home’s resale value, like paint color.
A home’s exterior is the first impression – and first impressions are everything. “Color can be a powerful tool for attracting buyers to a home, especially in listing photos and videos,” says Svenja Gudell, Zillow chief economist.
The first thing a buyer sees while waiting to enter your home is the curb appeal, which includes the exterior of your home. A neglegted exterior can often times ward off buyers before you can get them through the door. You may have a beautiful interior, although a poor exterior may keep buyers from ever seeing it. Improving the curb appeal of your home can have a huge positive effect on selling your home. This includes any siding, porch railings, decks, adding a pop of color to doors, etc. Choosing the proper colors for your exterior is key. The right color should help your home stand out without being intimidating or too bold for most buyers.
Interior
According to the Zillow Group Consumer Housing Trends Report 2020, the average seller makes 2.3 renovations or improvements to prepare to sell, and 79% of sellers make at least one home improvement. The most common project is painting the interior (35 percent of sellers).
When selling your home your color choices should not be based on personal preference since you want to appeal to broad market of buyers. Therefore, your color choices should be neutral to allow a potential buyer to envision your home as their space. Buyers will try to envision living in your home and neutralizing personal choices throughout your home will allow the buyer to picture their belongings in the home. Using light neutral colors will help brighten the space and make it appear larger to the buyer. If a potential buyer enters the home and sees bold paint colors throughout they may have trouble envisioning living in the space, and they will also know that they will need to paint the space, which may deter potential buyers.

Living rooms with walls in soft beige, taupe, or oatmeal were the clear winners in sales and higher sale prices, according to Zillow. These earth tones are light enough to open up a room yet also lend a pleasant organic warmth.

82% of experts recommend warm-tinted neutral paint for selling because of the likelihood that it won't turn away buyers for being too bright or too cold. Warm colors are welcoming, and neutrals don't impose your personal style, so they're great for inviting prospective buyers to see their future in your home.
