2024 Colors of the Year
2024 Pantone Color of the Year
In an interview last week about 2024’s choice color, Laurie Pressman, vice president of Pantone, described the color authority’s choice as a much-needed balm for a country “in need of compassion” and the institute’s global wish “for a more peaceful future.”
“With that in mind,” she said, “we wanted to focus on a color that focuses on community and the ones we love. We needed it to be a color of compassion and empathy.”
Pantone Color Institute has announced that Peach Fuzz, a warm and fuzzy hue between pink and orange, is the Color of the Year for 2024.
The announcement is the 25th year that the prognosticators at Pantone have named a Color of the Year, a trend forecast that influences everything from paint colors to fashion.
Behr - Cracked Pepper
Behr's 2024 Color of the Year Is a Dramatic yet Soothing Neutral
The wait is over. You can now say hello to Behr’s 2024 Color of the Year, Cracked Pepper. A soft black, this shade can easily transform and elevate any space—whether you use it as an accent to a door or kitchen cabinets, or go all-out and paint an entire room in this timeless hue. And it’s not only a versatile paint color for interior spaces; it can add sophistication and drama to the outside of your home, as well—whether it’s used for gutters or the entirety of your exterior.
“As we look into 2024, creating a sense of comfort and belonging will continue to drive design decisions—but now, as life returns to its more familiar rhythms, it’s time to allow our senses to come alive,” says Erika Woelfel, Vice President of Color and Creative Services at Behr Paint Company, in a press release. “From heightening the aromas of a dining room to feeling the softness of a living area, Cracked Pepper enhances the natural expression in any space.”
While the deep shade may seem rather bold, it functions as a neutral. It can look stunning in pretty much any style of home, from traditional to retro to modern, and it pairs seamlessly with decor and hardware in a variety of shades, finishes, and textures. Plus, in a survey conducted by Behr, three-quarters (74%) of Americans would consider painting an area or room a dark color. “We recognize the growing desire for using darker colors throughout spaces,” says Jodi Allen, Global Chief Marketing Officer at Behr Paint Company. “Adding a soft black like Cracked Pepper evokes a sense of confidence and individuality that we want all of our customers to feel after completing a project.”

Sherwin Williams- Upward
Sherwin-Williams’ 2024 pick might just be the best example of brand marketing synergy we’ve seen. This year the paint company unveiled its COTY, Upward. “It’s clean, it’s tranquil, and it’s breezy, with a subtle periwinkle undertone,” Sherwin-Williams’s director of color marketing Sue Wadden explains of the Upward paint color. “And we believe that it’s the right color for the moment.” Clearly, Sherwin-Williams is onto something, given (spoiler alert) the bevy of pale-blue COTYs this season.
A heavenly color is about to take center stage, gently urging you to refresh your interiors. Sherwin-Williams announced Upward (SW 6239) as its Color of the Year for 2024, and the relaxed blue practically embodies the sensation of taking a slow breath of crisp air.
The pale blue with gray undertones fosters harmony. "It brings to life that carefree, sunny day energy that elicits a notion of contentment and peace," Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams, said in a press release. "With this color, we invite our consumers to take a pause and infuse a new sense of ease and possibility into their spaces—one that doesn't overwhelm, but rather establishes meditation and tranquility."
Upward easily blends into various other aesthetics including grandmillenial and Art Deco. If you're eager to embrace the color in your home, consider using the hue in an accent wall or ceiling. Upward can also help refresh kitchen cabinetry, brighten up a bathroom vanity, make your front door stand out, or revive an old piece of furniture. Wadden recommends pairing Upward with other cool blue and green paints. Neutrals, from classic Tricorn Black to delicate gray Drift of Mist, can also enhance Upward's overall calming effect.
Benjamin Moore- Blue Nova
What do Blue Origin and Benjamin Moore’s 2024 Color of the Year have in common? Not much. But the Jeff Bezos–founded aerospace company and paint juggernaut teamed up this month to announce Blue Nova, an intergalactic blue-purple, as the shade that will be all the rage next year. In contrast to its terra-cotta-tinged 2023 COTY, Raspberry Blush, moodier Blue Nova leans toward the cool end of the color spectrum. “We fell in love with the sumptuous quality, the intrigue, and it was balanced with this undercurrent of reassurance that we thought was really nice,” said Andrea Magno, the company’s director of color marketing and development. A corresponding palette of nine additional colors—including a sunny yellow, a dusky green, and a warm burnt-orange—further support a diverging vibe shift between moody and mood-boosting in the year ahead.
Dutch Boy:
Ironside
"Ironside" is Dutch Boy Paint's color choice for 2024. The brand describes the nature-inspired olive green color as a great one for anyone who seeks to make their home a "sanctuary for well-being." Ironside is a deep olive shade with bold undertones of black—not exactly a neutral, but a color that nonetheless adds a sense of calm to a space.
Ironside is rooted in comfort and creates a space that is elegant and charming. “It’s very approachable, it’s very usable, and it’s very comforting,” says Ashley Banbury, Dutch Boy Paints’ color marketing manager and interior designer.. As dark shades become more appreciated in the home, this deep olive is versatile in wide-open spaces or enclosed comfy places, reflecting well-being from all angles," Dutch Boy said in a press release.
PPG Glidden -Limitless
A Creamy, Champagne-Inspired Shade
Glidden Says Gray Is Officially Canceled With Their 2024 Color of the Year
If you've been thinking about gray paint for your next DIY project or room refresh, consider Limitless instead. “Warm neutrals are here to stay, replacing cool tones like gray in 2024 and beyond,” McCollum says. It's versatile enough to be used on large surfaces, such as kitchen cabinets and walls, but McCollum suggests using it for smaller areas like baseboards and ceilings as well. Since the hue is both light and warm, it can make spaces feel larger, brighter, and more welcoming.
Glidden's color of the year is a warm, nearly-yellow neutral that can be paired with almost any color scheme. The color experts at Glidden call Limitless an “anything-but-yellow honey beige," and say it was designed to blend with both warm and cool tones—though they're embracing the warm-tone trend. "This modern neutral is as adaptable as its name implies and is taking the place of cool neutral tones that are so last year,” said Ashley McCollum, color expert for Glidden, in a press release.
Valspar Renew Blue
It Will Turn Your Home Into a Soothing Retreat
The cool blues and greens that defined the paint trends of the last few years offer a calming, natural complement to warm neutrals and bolder accent shades. Valspar's just-released 2024 Color of the Year, Renew Blue, continues the trend, combining soothing tones of blue and organic undertones of green and gray to create a use-anywhere shade that can anchor your home's entire aesthetic.
Embrace tranquility with this restful blue-green shade.
"Blue is a classic shade that has become the new neutral for today's home and can be mixed and matched to fit a variety of design styles and applications," said Sue Kim, Valspar's director of color marketing, in the company's press release. "Inspired by fleeting elements like fog, mist, clouds, and glacier lakes, Renew Blue elevates the everyday mood, encourages self-expression, and evokes a feeling of balance and calm, with a twist of unique spontaneity."
While the color is saturated enough to stand on its own as a wall color, including in a full color drench, the company also suggests it as an accent shade for woodwork, entryway doors, and cabinetry. Pair it with gray- or tan-undertone neutrals in a nursery, use it to add color to a refinished table-and-chairs set, or allow it to contrast with natural materials like wood, jute, and bamboo.
HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams: Persimmon
“Renewed Comfort" is the name of HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams's 2024 Color Collection of the Year, and it's filled with gentle neutral colors that are "restful and restorative."
The brand's 2024 Color of the Year, selected from that collection, is "Persimmon," an earthy terracotta shade that 's both calming and cheerful.
The beautiful shade helps rejuvenate a space while bringing unique design visions to life,” Ashley Banbury, Sherwin-Williams' color marketing manager, said in a press release.
Persimmon balances the energy of tangerine with grounded neutral undertones, making it perfect for spaces like living rooms and kitchens as it promotes positive relationships and conversation.
